Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit
Every new hire meets with a member of the recruitment team to help set the stage for the first six months of employment. New hires then attend orientations, both general and specific to job function. The Cottage Health onboarding support process is designed help new employees understand their job requirements and navigate their new roles within Cottage Health. The program includes interactive meetings within the first week, at 30 days and at 90 days, and additional one-on- one orientations and trainings within the first 90 days. This process welcomes new employees into the Cottage Health environment and helps them feel appreciated, connected and excited about joining our organization. It is also an effective means of allowing newly hired talent to become acquainted with our workplace culture, policies and expectations. • Specific presentations introduce new hires to the Cottage commitment to “Patients First;” offer an overview of Cottage Total Rewards; discuss cultural care, medical social work, employee health and safety, spiritual care, and marketing; provide information on Cottage policies in connection with privacy, security, confidentiality and conflicts of interest; inform new hires of the Cottage Environment of Care (fire, life, safety, codes, parking); assist with computer connections, email and online tools; demonstrate and discuss infection control; introduce HealthStream online education and training offerings and lead new hires on a tour of the facility. At orientation, new hires are seated by those with similar roles to promote connections and new friendships. They are provided with Cottage merchandise such as blankets, first aid kids, and coffee mugs as a thank you for choosing Cottage. 6.24 How do you welcome new employees and integrate them into your culture? Best First Day – General Orientation UPDATED: Prior to orientation, the organizational development care team contacts new hires by phone. The team asks the candidates about food considerations for lunch (we are able to provide Kosher, vegetarian and gluten- free meals for our new hires), confirms the schedule for the new hires’ first week, provides parking permit information and asks if the new hires would prefer to have a Spanish speaking IT tech for computer connection instruction. On the first day of employment, all employees participate in a general patient- centered orientation we call “Best First Day.” Many new employees say it is the most comprehensive employee orientation they have ever attended. Our orientation, equal parts engaging and practical, is designed to welcome new hires into the Cottage family by helping them understand the organization and making them feel more comfortable in their new environment. This is a day that not only covers an organizational overview but is also interactive and provides opportunities for new employees to share their experiences at other organizations with each other. The orientation covers these topics: • Cottage Health: Standards of Excellence • Administration Welcome and Introductions – All vice presidents and the CEO or COO attend almost every orientation to welcome new hires and provide an introduction to their departments’ unique roles within the organization.
