Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit
Supplemental Materials Mortgage Assistance Program UPDATED: We have had to get creative when it comes to helping our employees obtain housing in the Santa Barbara market. Mortgage assistance is available to qualified full-time and part-time employees purchasing a single-family home. Assistance is available in the form of a second trust deed loan and employees can receive 15% or up to $250,000 for a down payment. At the end of 2018, there were 24 new loans for a total of $2,121,840 and 154 active loans with balances totaling $8,385,927. Housing Assistance Program We offer financial assistance for renting or owning a single-family residence. Assistance is directed to applicants of “difficult to recruit” positions, employees who experience life events requiring assistance, and those relocating within a 25-mile radius of Cottage Health. We provide up to $4,000 to current full-time and part-time employees and $3,000 for those newly hired into difficult to recruit positions. We also help when employees experience challenging life events. For example, an employee’s husband lost his work permit and had to leave the country for a year. The employee received $2,000 to help with the first month’s rent and deposit during this difficult time. Bella Riviera… Over a Decade in the Making Cottage Health purchased property in Santa Barbara with sweeping ocean views and built 115 beautiful new townhomes and cottages. Working closely with the City of Santa Barbara, we were able to designate 81 of those homes, now called “Bella Riviera,” as workforce professional housing. This unique employee housing opportunity is rarely available in the health care industry. We are proud to offer it to employees who qualify. The homes are provided at a significant discount from market prices. Bella Riviera sits on a terraced site in the hills of Santa Barbara giving homeowners unobstructed ocean views. The quality of the construction is outstanding and is designed in two distinct architectural styles: Santa Barbara Mission and California Craftsman. The homes were built using the Santa Barbara Built-Green “3-star” rating. One-, two- and three-bedroom models are available to full-time and part-time employees who meet Santa Barbara’s eligibility criteria for affordable townhomes. For those who live at Bella Riviera and work at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, a free courtesy shuttle is provided each weekday to transport employees to and from home.
